A Temple of Light

The domed structure has a diameter of 48 m and a height of 28 m. The dome is carried by three sets of nine pillars and 27 upwards-stretching concrete buttresses towards the vertex where an ornamental plaque contains an Arabic calligraphic rendering of the Bahá’í invocation “O Glory of the All-Glorious”. The areas between the buttresses are perforated with 540 rhombic windows which use natural light to generate a dynamic projection of light and shadows.

Since 1987 the building has been officially listed as a cultural monument by the German state of Hesse.

"O  people of the world! Build ye houses of worship throughout the lands in the name of Him Who is the Lord of all religions. Make them as perfect as is possible in the world of being, and adorn them with that which befitteth them, not with images and effigies. Then, with radiance and joy, celebrate therein the praise of your Lord, the Most Compassionate. Verily, by His remembrance the eye is cheered and the heart is filled with light."
