Bahá'í Houses of Worship are an expression of the love between God and man. They are focal points for prayer and meditation-in the peaceful simplicity of the Houses of Worship, people seek that mystical connection to their Creator. Houses of Worship are open to all people, regardless of differences in ideology, religion, nationality, skin colour, race, or native origin.

The Houses of Worship are the central edifices representing the spiritual heart of the community. Gradually, other buildings, institutions of social service, will surround the Houses of Worship-buildings such as schools, universities, hospitals, orphanages, nursing homes, retirement homes, etc. Worship, in the Bahá'í view, is only true worship when words are expressed in deeds.

The House of Worship in Hofheim-Langenhain was designed and constructed by architectural engineer Teuto Rocholl, Frankfurt am Main. The prefabricated, reinforced concrete steel block superstructure was produced in the Netherlands. The dome has a base of 48 metres (157.5 feet) in diameter. The height from ground floor to the top is approximately 28 metres (92 feet). Twenty-seven pillars (three times nine) form the boundary of the interior and support the dome. These upward curving ribs end at the top in a circle that supports the lantern. Between the ribs, 540 diamond-shaped (inset glass panel) windows, are arranged to allow the sunlight to stream into the interior. The result is an enchanting interplay of light and shadow. The Bahá'í House of Worship in Hofheim was inaugurated in 1964 after four years of construction. The construction of the House of Worship was financed solely by Bahá'ís from all around the world.
