A
PORTABLE RETREAT
|
Harassed hospital
staff, stressed teachers and business workers are among
those who have enjoyed the peace and serenity of Tranquillity
Zones.
The Tranquillity Zone
is a community service project of the Baha'is of Swindon,
who have been running the sessions for nearly three
years.
Thousands of people
have already attended the 40-minute sessions in the
Wiltshire town, often in their own working environment.
Rooms in the local hospital, mental health clinics,
schools, businesses and the civic offices have been
transformed into a fragrant oasis of peace and well-being.
Desks, chairs and
everyday office furniture are replaced by cushions,
flowers, drapes and candles.

Within this peaceful and
meditative setting, participants can sit back and enjoy a
restful, spiritually-enriching break away from the stresses
of the workplace, while they listen to inspiring words from
the Baha'i Writings accompanied by soothing music.
The project was featured
on BBC TV's "Heaven and Earth" in mid-1999 - and
Baha'is in many other parts of Britain have taken up the initiative
and are offering the service to people in their locality.
Barney Leith, Secretary
General of the Baha'is of the UK, said: "Members of the
Baha'i community all over the country are responding to a
real need in today's hectic world.
"Not only does the
Tranquillity Zone provide a relaxing and welcoming oasis away
from our stressful and busy lives, but it provides much needed
spiritual nourishment and raises awareness of our spiritual
needs."
