"Sincerity is the foundation-stone of faith. That is, a religious individual must disregard his personal desires and seek in whatever way he can wholeheartedly to serve the public interest"

ʻAbdu'l-Bahá

Involvement In Society

The Bahá’í Teachings make clear that the process of establishing universal peace and prosperity will require the participation of the whole of humanity. Baha'is, therefore, do not consider themselves to possess the answers to every challenge facing society. Rather, Bahá’ís seek to work with likeminded individuals and organisations to explore how we can work together and identify the needs of our society as it continues to evolve.

At the local level, Bahá’ís across the UK are involved in a range of social action initiatives which are often informal. These can range from initiatives preserving the natural environment, promoting interfaith relations or supporting refugees. Wherever they reside Bahá’í communities are concerned with the wellbeing and unity of their neighbourhoods and villages. Bahá’ís seek to foster an environment of inclusivity by promoting a culture of visiting one another's homes and of inclusive reflection on the needs of their communities.
